Winner of the Salisbury and South Wiltshire CAMRA Pub of the Year 2008, the Rai d’Or has a proven record for serving excellent food and drink at great prices. The following quotes are all from independent review websites:
My wife and I had the set menu for two and enjoyed every course, veg cooked to perfection. If you’ve never tried Thai this is the perfect introduction. Great value for money with good selction of beers at the bar.
Moved to Salisbury 10 weeks ago and have already eaten here 5 times. Its a lovely, slightly quirky place with bags of character. Don’t expect “corporate” here, if that’s what you are after try Wagamamas, or a Tesco take-out! This place is about individuality and character. I like my traditional ale and there is always something to on sale that hits the spot. Local brews from small brewers. The food has always been top notch. Fresh produce, and spiced to your individual liking. My partner likes hot and spicy Thai dishes, I go for more mellow and aromatic, but there is plenty for us both to choose. Our visit last Sat Jan 8th was with friends who were equally impressed, and the place was packed! That, just days after the long festive break, says something about the place.
We liked it so much we ate there every night. It was recently the real ale pub of the year so the beer was in perfect condition and the prices were very reasonable. Drinks were cheaper than all the other pubs we went to and a really filling set menu was 15 but the second time I went there I had a big plate of stir fry noodles for half that. The place was jammed both times we went there so ring ahead to get a table.
Simon runs a very friendly and cosy establishment serving an assortment of fine brews on the bar side, and some of the best Thai food outside of Asia on the other. Locals often recommend the Pad Thai, but I love the Green Curry chicken, Peking Duck and Ginger ice cream. The atmosphere is warm and cosy, with other patrons often striking up a friendly conversation. One of the oldest buildings in Salisbury, the place has had a colorful past, and Simon will be glad to share it with you. On cold evenings, a fire adds a special warmth and nice feel to the already homey atmosphere.
Don’t be put off by the outside, inside you’re guaranteed to get a friendly welcome, excellent food and drinks. There is a good variety of authentic food and no matter how busy the restaurant the service is always good without a long wait. The wines are very good and reasonably priced and there is also an excellent selection of real ales/cider.
“Very nice. Family atmosphere.”(Cachaito Lopez of Buena Vista Social Club)
“Wir kommen von Heidelberg und haben im altesten Gasthaus von Salisbury sehr gut gegessen. Die atmosphare und der Service war sehr angenehm. Wir haben uns sehr wohlgefuhl.(Marcus Dehmann)
Excellent ales, very convivial, and a great atmosphere
Intimate, quiky atmosphere – the kind of local so many of us no longer have.
Unbelievable to find this type of food in a pub environment, cooked fresh, excellent flavour.
